There is a lot of talk these days about showing up.
Show up for yourself.
Show up for your dreams.
Show up for your family.
Show up for your purpose.
It sounds inspiring until you are the one who has to do it.
Because the truth is, showing up is easy when life is going well.
It's easy to show up when you feel confident.
It's easy to show up when you're winning.
It's easy to show up when everyone is cheering you on.
The real test comes when life knocks the wind out of you.
What does showing up look like when you're grieving?
What does showing up look like when you've lost your job, your marriage, your confidence, or your sense of direction?
What does showing up look like when you feel stuck, exhausted, or completely unsure of what comes next?
I think that's where we get it wrong.
We believe showing up means being strong.
But most of the time, showing up simply means being present.
Sometimes showing up means getting out of bed when you don't feel like it.
Sometimes it means attending the meeting.
Sometimes it means making the phone call.
Sometimes it means taking one small step toward a goal you can't fully see yet.
And sometimes showing up means sitting quietly with God and saying, "I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm here."
I've learned that showing up doesn't require certainty.
It requires willingness.
There were seasons in my life when I didn't feel brave.
After deployments.
During difficult transitions.
In moments when I questioned who I was and what I was supposed to do next.
I didn't always have answers.
But I kept showing up.
One day at a time.
One step at a time.
One prayer at a time.
Looking back, I realize that showing up was never about proving how strong I was.
It was about refusing to quit.
The people I admire most aren't the ones who never struggle.
They're the ones who keep showing up while they're struggling.
The ones who continue healing.
The ones who continue learning.
The ones who continue believing that their story isn't over yet.
Maybe that's where you are today.
Maybe you don't feel motivated.
Maybe you're tired.
Maybe life hasn't gone according to plan.
That's okay.
You don't have to have everything figured out.
You don't need a perfect roadmap.
You don't need to know exactly how things will work out.
You just need to show up.
Show up for your healing.
Show up for your purpose.
Show up for the life that's still waiting for you.
Because every time you show up, even imperfectly, you're casting a vote for the person you're becoming.
And that matters more than you know.
Remember this:
Showing up isn't about being fearless.
Showing up is choosing to move forward even when fear comes along for the ride.
Keep showing up.
Your future self will thank you for it.
Rising isn't optional—it's who we are.
